Physical and Earth Science:
Since being in this class, I have become more aware of Professors efforts to integrate technology into their teaching. My Physical and Earth Science professor does this well. He loves using technology along side with all of his neat gadgets. What really makes me interested in the class and technology used, is his ability to properly operate it. There have been many times when I have been blown away by something he has created using technology.
I also love his enthusiasm for the technology. Because he gets really excited about using it and thinks its cool...I get really excited about it and begin to think that it is cool:)
I have learned a lot of really great ways to integrate technology into a science lesson. Lets just hope I can remember them when I actually start teacher!

Reflection Two
Animoto Video
After making the video in class using the Animoto site, I can see myself integrating these slide shows into my classroom. I think that these videos will become a hit...especially in an elementary classroom, I mean what student doesn't like to see a picture of them? What I likes was that the site was really easy to navigate and a great online resource that doesn't need software to use.
I would integrate these slide shows into my classroom in many ways. One creative way would be early on in the year and letting each student make a slide show of who they are and their favorite things. This would be a great way for the class to get to know their peers better and could potentially make for some great conversation starters.
Another way I would integrate Animoto would be to use it as a way to show off what the class has been doing. Like Professor Adair with the crazy hair day, I would take pictures of my classroom doing fun things--field trips and science experiments.
It is fascinating how much technology is under our noses and we never thought to use them in a classroom. I am so happy that I am learning all of this new stuff.

Reflection One
SCIENCE:
Technology in Education--February 26th
After today's class, I have learned that there are many ways to incorporate technology into science. What I liked most about the project was the imagination and creativity that was used to make the best possible lesson. I think that with a little bit of collaboration from other teacher, we can create curriculum that will not only be effective, but fun!
The only thing I hope is that my school district will have all of the supplies and tools (digital camera, video camera, SMART Board, needed to make lessons like this one.

Week Seven
Save the trees.
After watching the, Ten Ways to Use Your Edublogs, I thought, what a great idea, we should use our blogs for math. This can potentially eliminate all of the paper that teachers give their students and instead of students loosing all of their lovely assignments (especially young boys) why not just have all of them listed on the blog. This would also be a great way for the math teacher to post mini clips of them solving a problem or using a special formula, so when at home, students can watch the mini clips if stuck, plug in their own numbers on the homework, and solve the problem. How I would of loved to record everything my math teacher was doing on the white board so when I got home I could actually do my homework instead of forgetting what had been taught in class that day.
Students can also create forums and chats while doing their homework. This will enable them to ask questions to other students for help when working on homework.
Also, teachers will be able to easily share their material with other teachers.
And finally, students will always know what their homework is, because it will be posted on the blog. Even if you are absent, the student will still feel like they are apart of the class.

Promethean ActivBoard:
After reading and watching a lot on the Promethean ActivBoard, I am sold. I really like the features the board offers. One of the nicest things I found, was that when a student comes up to write something, the ActivBoard will change the handwriting into a typed word. This would make it more legible and easier to read if the child or teacher has sloppy handwriting. One thing I didn't like about it, was that you cant use your finger to operate the ActivBoard like you can the SMART Board. The research that I found regarding the ActivBoard is that they are more user friendly in the Elementary classroom. I think that having a user friendly piece of technology can really make or break a child's interest in it.
ONE QUESTION: Because the ActivBoard is more expensive than the SMART Board, what are the chances of us working with one in the future. Are most classrooms going to have SMART Boards because of the price?

How this interactive white board
lesson uses this critical thinking, problem solving, and decision making NET is
because the students learning about the patterns will need to use all three to
understand the concept fully. The student will need to use critical thinking to
figure out what a pattern is and why they would need to use it. They need to
use problem solving to find this missing picture, number, or color in the
pattern. They will also make decisions on what kind of pattern they are looking
at and from there, be able to solve and critically think about the problem.
Patterns will be used throughout life and also with technology.

How can this white board lesson improve
students learning?
How this interactive white board
lesson could improve my students learning in the future is by giving them a
foundation that can grow and mature when they proceed in school. Because my
lesson would be given in a kindergarten classroom, my students will need to
understand what a pattern is and determine the importance of them. The white
board lesson is a very colorful and engaging lesson, which is needed in a
kindergarten classroom. The students will also be engaged by the relatable items
and pictures in the lesson. This is a great foundational lesson that every
student needs to understand.

Week Six
Generation IM
In the future, my classroom full of students will look nothing like the classroom of yesterday. Not only has the curriculum changed but the students have too. The students that I will be teaching come from a generation centered around technology; You would be hard pressed to find a seventh grader who doesn't own their own iPod or smart phone. Scholastic.com quotes David Williamson Shaffer from his book, How Computer Games Help Children Learn, saying, "we need to use technology in compelling and progressive ways," and "if we fail to do so, kids are going to look at what's going on in school and see that it is irrelevant." Our students will know if the technology we are using is being uses properly and effectively. One of the problems that teachers have facing them, is that they don't have enough resources to learn how to use the technology effectively and properly. The article gives some great examples of barriers teachers are faced with:
1) a lack of quality professional development for teachers;
2) a lack of time to explore, apply, and reflect with colleagues on the challenges and potentials of integrating any type of technology into the classroom culture; and
3) limited administrative support about how to use technology effectively to empower learners.
This class has taught me that the students I will potentially be teaching, come from a generation that is nothing like mine. They think differently then I do, learn differently, and use technology differently. I want to become a teacher who effectively integrates technology into my classroom.

When in a science class, no one likes to listen to a teacher lecture or read a textbook. Instead, they want to be doing something hands on and that is relevant to their lives. The blog is a great idea for students to post science experiments: pictures, hypothesis, lists of tools, procedures and conclusion.
Google Earth provides science students with an amazing visual and practical example of the concepts they are learning. 50 years ago, pictures of the Earth were new and exciting and today we have a program that lets students explore the cosmos and planet from the safety of the classroom! Whether students are learning about latitude and longitude, or reading the journals of Lewis and Clark, programs like Google Earth can take the students learning to a whole new level.

Week Four
Not so Smart with the SMART Board:
I had a lot of fun working with the SMART Board in class today. I really enjoyed getting to use this hands on tool and learn how all the
features work. I know I still have a long way to go before I master it, and
even though I fumbled a lot, I thought it went alright. One of my favorite
features we looked at today was the compass. I know that my students would love
to work with that and see how an amplified compass works on the SMART Board
before they work with their individual ones. I also worked a lot with the
cloning feature which was really nice because I didn't have to copy and paste
every time I wanted to duplicate an object. The most important thing I learned
is that it’s going to take a lot of practice before I will look like a pro SMART Boarder.
Because the SMART Board is very touchy and has many features, I will need to
dedicate a lot of time working with it.
Although I need a lot of practice on the SMART Board, because there is so much, I feel like I need my own personal teacher to walk me through everything. Some
things I would like to know about the SMART Board are:
1. Are there classes you can take on using the
SMART Board outside of this one?
2. How do you record voice?
3. Can you print off notes taken on the SMART Board?
